AIR CONDITIONING

Air Conditioning

Maiden Newton Garage are fully trained and certified to maintain and repair the air conditioning system on your car or light commercial vehicle.

It is necessary to periodically (normally every 2 years) service the air conditioning system to prevent water from accumulating in the system, which can lead to reduced efficiency and component failure. The service includes removing the refrigerant from the system and placing it under a vacuum to remove the water and moisture, we then replenish the system with fresh refrigerant and fully test the operation after. It is advisable to have the pollen/cabin filter checked and replaced as necessary to ensure maximum efficiency. We can carry out system flushing and anti-bacterial protection where necessary.

As with any other vehicle system faults can occur with air conditioning systems regardless of how well maintenance has been carried out, here at Maiden Newton Garage we have the knowledge and expertise to solve any problems your air conditioning system may have.

Which air-con gas does my vehicle need?

There are two different types of refrigerant or “gas” used to recharge air-conditioning systems, the standard R134A gas and the new generation R1234YF refrigerant. The reason for the new gas being introduced is that car manufacturers have been forced to change the refrigerant used in new vehicle air conditioning systems.

This is because the refrigerant that has traditionally been used for the last 20 years or so (R134A) has been found to be extremely damaging to the environment, contributing to the destruction of the ozone layer.

We have taken measures to eliminate any damage to the environment by ensuring all our technicians are F-Gas registered and that a nitrogen test is carried out prior to a recharge on any system that contains no gas or that we suspect may have a leak.

However, on vehicles manufactured after 2017 (and occasionally some before) the traditional R134A gas is no longer suitable and the significantly more expensive R1234YF gas has to be used.

Air Conditioning Inspection - £35.00 + Vat includes:

  • A temperature check.

  • A refrigerant check.

  • A thorough inspection of the systems key components including the compressor, condenser, drive belts and hoses

  • A pressure test / leak check using nitrogen

R134A Air-con regas using R134A gas. Suitable for most pre-2017 vehicles - £60.00 + Vat.

R1234YF New generation air-con regas suitable for vehicles manufactured after 2017 - £120.00 + Vat.

Bacterial Clean designed to remove stale odours from the air-conditioning system - £15.00 + Vat.
