DPF CLEANING

If you own a diesel car then chances are you have a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Any diesel engine can be susceptible to soot build-up, especially those mainly driven around town or on short or low speed journeys. DPFs are designed to remove this soot as you drive, but over time they can stop working.

To avoid expensive repair bills and to

keep your car running smoothly, we

recommend regular DPF cleaning.

DPFs were developed to meet ongoing changes in emissions regulations, and are now fitted to almost all modern diesel vehicles. This relatively new technology has proven to be very successful in reducing emissions, however sometimes things can go wrong.

Engine Warning Light

With most vehicles the DPF warning light will illuminate to notify you that the unit is becoming blocked and requires regeneration. When conditions are met for regeneration, it will attempt to burn off the built up soot using either an active, or passive regeneration. If the regeneration is unable to occur or fails you may be treated to an additional warning light on your dash. This usually occurs when the DPF is blocked beyond the point at which a normal regeneration will clear it and indicates a DPF clean maybe required.

As part of your DPF clean the DPF is put in a specialist cleaning machine and undergoes a two-way aqueous clean and drying procedure to remove all soot and ash. Another back pressure test is carried out to confirm the cleaning has been successful. The DPF is reinstalled.
